Jo\u0161 od srednjeg vijeka u Crkvi se ustalilo pravilo da sve\u0107enici na taj dan poste. Otuda je i do\u0161ao naziv &#8220;mesopust&#8221; koji je prijevod talijanske rije\u010di &#8220;karneval&#8221; ili &#8220;carnivale&#8221; (carni vale = zbogom mesu). Hrvat<span class=\"text_exposed_show\">ski jezik karneval naziva i &#8220;pokladama&#8221;, \u0161to dolazi od starohrvatskog glagola &#8220;klasti&#8221; -preru\u0161avati se.<br \/>\n..
