Potkraj 19. stolje\u0107a Imotski, gradi\u0107 od oko 1500 stanovnika bio je na &#8216;kraju svita&#8217;, u prometno izoliranoj i gospodarski zaostaloj pokrajini Austro-Ugarske Monarhije. Putnike i po\u0161tu od 1870-ih iz Splita i Sinja preko Krivodola za Imotski dovozile su dili\u0111ence s tri brza konja. Na te\u0161koj makadamskoj cesti izmjene konja obavljale su se u nekoliko mjesta. Putnicima je to bilo gorko iskustvo jer je u dili\u0111encama puhalo na sve strane, a po ki\u0161i bi se morao otvoriti ki\u0161obran. Kota\u010di dili\u0111enca \u010desto bi ispadali putem pa bi se putnici morali iskrcavati i na putu \u010dekati dok se kota\u010d zave\u017ee i prive\u017ee. Nakon toga bi u strahu za vlastiti \u017eivot jedva \u010dekali do\u0107i do svojih odredi\u0161ta.
